On Friday, 17 August 1860, Governor Sir Henry Barkly and Lady Barkly made a visit to the expedition's camp in Royal Park.

On Saturday 18 August 1860 at 1.00 pm, a special meeting of the Royal Society of Victoria was held. This meeting farewelled the Exploring Party.
The men signed a Memorandum of Agreement, then were addressed by Sir William Stawell, who made a farewell speech. That evening the Deutscher Verein held a farewell dinner.

On Sunday 19 August, Dean McCartney held a special service at St James' Cathedral to 'implore the Divine blessing'.
