To the Hon Secretary of the Royal Society Vic,
toria, Dr Macadam MLA, etc.

Sir,

On Sep 30, with the approval of Mr Burke, I handed over to Professor Neumayer for transmission to you a copy of my diary, containing my notes made on the road from Swan Hill to Balranald. I enclosed also six (6) sketches representing objects I met with during the journey.

I now have the honor to send to you, by the Darling mail, the continuation of my 'notes on the way', together with fourteen (14) sketches, which, I hope, will reach Melbourne in an unspoiled condition.

Minindie Nov 14th, 9am.

This moment the Mailman entered my place and I am obliged to close apruptedly. With next post the rest of my diary together with a number of sketches and observations I hope still prove of no small interest. The explanation of the enclosed sketches will follow.

In great haste,
Sir,
Yours obediently,
Ludwig Becker
