William John Wills dispatch, Bilbarka, 4 October 1860. 4 pages.

Bilbarka, Lower Darling. Camp 30
October 4th 1860.

The Hon Secretary of the
Exploration Committee.

Sir,

I have the honor to forward by this mail, copies of the astronomical observations made by me for the determination of the geographical position of the various camps of the Victorian Exploring Expedition.

A plan of our route together with any original field notes were forwarded per favor of Professor Neumeyer a few days ago.

In the event of the Committee deeming it advisable that these observations should be at once reduced and computed,

I would suggest that all...

...readings of the sextant should be taken in consecutive pairs; because the observations have invariably been made by outer and inner contents alternately, always beginning with the former. this has been done with the view of eliminating as much as possible the errors arising from irregularities in the motion of the tangent screw and the peculiarities of [?] of the observer.

I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient servant,
William J Wills,
Surveyor and Astronomer
of the VEE

October 4th 1860.

Forwarded.

R O'Hara Burke,
Leader.
