The following summary, showing the expenditure on account of each of the several expeditions, is taken from the final report of the Committee of the Royal Society, dated 20th August, 1863. It will be found that the total is in excess of that under the head of Grant to Committee, in part No. 1 of this return, but it is to be noted that the Committee received a large sum of money by private subscriptions.
